The Guelph School of Art is a proud member of the Wyndham Art Supplies family. Our classes and workshops run year-round, with daycamps during March Break and the summer months. We have classes suited to both the beginner and seasoned artist in a range of media and specialties.

For more than 10 years the Guelph School of Art has reflected the dynamic visual art scene making our city unique. The GSA's team is made up of top notch instructors, many of whom have experience teaching at the university level. All bring passion for the creative process to our small classes.


The school is situated on the 3rd floor of our building at 125 Wyndham Street North, in Downtown Guelph. Our studio space boasts plenty of natural lighting and architectural interest. For a tour of our classroom drop by Wyndham Art Supplies Monday through Saturday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.

HOW TO REGISTER

Don't let the class you want get cancelled.  Register at least two weeks prior to the first class.  Once we have met our minimum enrollment we are happy to take last minute resgitrations should space be available.


In Store- Visit us at Wyndham Art Supplies, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. We accept cash, debit, cheque, gift certificates and all major credit cards.

When registering please have an emergency contact name and any special notes (allergies, medical conditions) ready for our registration process.

All classes subject to applicable taxes. Materials are not included in class fees unless otherwise noted. It is suggested you refrain from purchasing course materials until we can confirm classes have met minimum registration. Adult classes are suited to those ages 17 and up. DISCOUNTS

You will save 10% off your classes if you choose to take more than one class or workshop in a session. This discount also applies when 2 or more family members register for classes within the same session. We also offer a 10% discount by request for seniors aged 60 years and up.

 

 

PRIVATE & SEMI-PRIVATE LESSONS


We are pleased to offer private instruction for individuals and small groups. Lessons are developed with student input, with excercises and feedback provided by one of our top-notch instructors. Work for an hour or two weekly in the medium and direction of your choice. Students and teachers will create a goal sheet together to outline the skills students would like to work on.  Please bring a sketchbook with you to each lesson to track progress and take any notes. All other materials will be recommended by your instructor as they pertain to your studies.


To enroll in a custom course, contact GSA Director Cara Collins to make arrangements with the instructor of your choice.

Fees:

An one-time administration fee of $20.00 + HST will be charged for all new private lessons. This fee covers course scheduling, development and research. Lessons are $36.00 + HST hourly per person. Groups of 2 or more students working at a time will receive a reduced rate. Payments are arranged in advance, on a 4 week schedule.

Professional Models can be arranged for lessons with an additional model fee and advance notice.

FRIDAY NIGHT ART CLUB with Cara Collins

Join us the 2nd Friday each month for a great kids art night! Each night we'll do a new set of projects or single larger activity. Groups of 3 or more friends who register together are eligible for our “family discount”, so make a night of it and bring your buddies! SUMMER ART CAMP

Dates:

GSA Summer Camps provide a positive, inclusive learning environment geared towards making art and having fun. We offer 7 individual week-long programs designed to encourage creativity, learn new skills and to explore new mediums and ideas.

Lessons will introduce various contemporary and historical art images and concepts, translating these into age-appropriate projects. Students will have the opportunity to work with acrylic paints, watercolours, printmaking, clay, inks, charcoal, pastels, markers, pencil crayons and more. Course content varies by week to allow for repeat registrations.

Camp takes place in our bright studio on the 3rd floor at 125 Wyndham Street North. 90 minute lunches are spent at nearby Joseph Wolfond Memorial Park. On rainy days we will screen a short video and play indoor games.

Fees: One Week Sessions are $200.00 plus taxes, and run from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. Fees include all materials as well as a sketchbook and a Guelph School of Art T-Shirt that are yours to keep at the end of the week. Additional T-Shirts can be purchased in-store as of July 2nd.

STUDIO 101 FOR TEENS with Michael Byers

This class is designed for students age 14 to 17.

3 DAYS, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, AUGUST 3 – 5, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM,

Studio 101 is an exploration of materials and techniques. Students will learn about contemporary artists and artwork, with an illustrator's slant. Discover new drawing techniques and different ways of expressing ideas visually, using collage, paints, ink washes, felt pen drawing, printmaking and more. By the end of the course, each student will have completed a diverse portfolio of artwork. *Bring any reference material you may wish to work from.


MATERIALS: Sketchbook 11”x14” or larger. All other materials included.

 

ADULT CLASSES

 

PORTRAIT DRAWING with David Caesar

4 NIGHTS, TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS, AUGUST 17, 19, 24 & 26, 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM, $115.00 plus taxes

Learn the art and science of portraiture in this fun and challenging class. We will cover basic structure and proportions of the head and face while studying shape and form. Students will learn to draw both from life and from photographs using “sighting” and measuring techniques. Your portraits will come alive with the help of light, shadow and colour.

MATERIALS: Sketchbook 11”x14” or larger, HB pencil and sharpener or 0.5 technical pencil, kneadable eraser, white vinyl eraser and a 12” stainless steel ruler. *Not suitable for beginners.

 

CRASH COURSE IN PAINTING with Phil Irish

4 NIGHTS, TUESDAY & THURSDAY, AUGUST 17, 19, 24 & 26, 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM, $115.00 plus taxes

This quick hands-on course is designed for beginners. In just 4 evenings you will learn the basics of painting including simple paint handling, colour theory, and composition. You may work in oils or acrylics. Phil will explain advantages, disadvantages, tips and tricks for both mediums. 3 small projects will give you a big introduction to the world of painting.

MATERIALS FOR OIL PAINTING: Palette, small metal palette knife, oil paints (alizarin crimson, cadmium red, ultramarine, cerulean, lemon yellow, cadmium yellow deep, either zinc OR titanium white, and burnt umber), 75 ml Liquin, #4 and #8 natural bristle filbert brushes recommended to begin, 2 canvas boards approximately 9”x12” and your choice of primed canvas, panel (primed) or canvas board for the final project, Phil will make size recommendations during the second week.

MATERIALS FOR ACRYLIC PAINTING: Palette small palette knife, acrylic paints (alizarin crimson, cadmium red, lemon, cadmium yellow deep, ultramarine, cerulean, white and burnt umber), flat #8 and round #4 synthetic brushes 2 canvas boards approximately 9”x12” and your choice of primed canvas, panel (primed) or canvas board for the final project, Phil will make size recommendations during the second week.

WORKSHOPS

 

MONOPRINTING with Pam Lobb

SATURDAY AUGUST 7, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM $78.00 plus taxes

ALL MATERIALS INCLUDED *MAXIMUM 8 STUDENTS

This workshop is open to the beginner as well as the more experienced artist, with a focus on oil-based monotype printmaking using the etching press. We will explore the many ways in which we can create a one-of-a-kind painterly print; additive and subtractive methods of applying ink to the plate surface, the use of stencils, chine colle, texture transferring, multiple plate printing and registration.

Monotype printmaking can be a very spontaneous and satisfying way to work and often inspires work in other mediums because of quick results and the variety of techniques used. Lots of wonderful papers and inks will be available for experimentation.

 

SCREENPRINTING with Roisin Fagan

SUNDAY, AUGUST 15, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, $105.00 plus taxes MATERIALS INCLUDED

This jam-packed workshop covers the basics of screenprinting. Learn about stenciling, experimental open screen techniques and using drawing fluid with screen filler. Paper and pigments will be available for in class use. Roisin will discuss printing on fabrics and give students the opportunity to print on a T-shirt (not included). Course fee includes a 10”x14” screen and a squeegee for you to keep*. Please come prepared with drawings or reference imagery to work from, students may do a small one or two colour print. OPTIONAL: Students may wish to bring a new washed T-shirt, a flat weave tea towel or pillow case for printing on.

*NOTE: To ensure a kit will be available to you please register before March 27th for the April 11th course or July 31st for the August 15th course.

 

SUMI-E WORKSHOP with Roslyn Levin

SATURDAY AUGUST 14, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM, $55.00 plus taxes

Join Roslyn for a workshop version of her popular daytime Sumi-e course. Sumi-e (which translate to black ink picture) is a beautiful, elegant and challenging non-toxic painting technique on mulberry (rice) paper or silk, using specifically-designed handmade brushes and ink from pine or vegetable soot. Much like our multi-week Sumi-e class, Roslyn will teach you some basic brushstrokes and the importance of white space, and the simplification of forms.

MATERIALS: 2 paperweights, medium size Chinese bamboo brush, felt, 1 roll of high quality 18” wide mulberry paper, 2 small white palette/saucers, 1 small piece of absorbent cloth (discarded t-shirt or sheet), ink stick and medium or large ink stone. *If you have any questions about these materials please ask Wyndham Art Supply store staff.

 

WATERCOLOUR PAINTING: ARORA BOREALIS with Karen Kesteloot

2 NIGHTS, MONDAY & WEDNESDAY AUGUST 23 & 25, 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM, $48.00 plus taxes

Create a dazzling landscape inspired by the Northern Lights. A great mini-class for those with some experience or for the absolute beginner, you will finish a great painting in these two evenings. Learn some basic watercolour techniques and colour mixing, and have lots of fun in this short yet sweet class.

MATERIALS: Set of watercolour paint tubes or cake paints, #4 round, #6 round, 1” flat wash sable or mixed synthetic/sable brushes, round divided palette, sea sponge, pencil, eraser, 1 sheet of 140lb cold press 100% rag watercolour paper.

 

MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE with Sandra Spagnuolo

AIRBRUSHING: B&W PORTRAITURE with Jason Gateman

SATURDAY & SUNDAY AUGUST 28 & 29, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, $150.00 plus taxes

Welcome to the world of black and white portraiture with the airbrush! This intensive workshop will introduce you to all of the techniques Jason has developed during his 18 years of portrait painting. Learn his process step by step along with all the little tips and tricks that make it look easy. This workshop is aimed at the artist who possesses a developed skill with the airbrush and strong hand/eye co-ordination. You will revisit basic exercises to master freehand control with the airbrush which is essential for any successful portrait. Jason will review different substrates, drawing and projection techniques for light and dark coloured surfaces; advanced texturing techniques for skin, eyes, teeth, lips and hair; paint thinning and mixing and how to properly seal and protect your paintings. Attention will also be given to staying confident and how deal with disaster when it strikes. This workshop is a must for anyone with a burning desire to paint accurate portraits.

Culture Days

1000 PAPER CRANES: peace, art and friendship

3:00 PM – 8:00 PM, SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 25

Inspired by the story of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes and an anonymous postcard seen at postsecret.com, we intend to fold 1000 paper cranes to send to the Children's Peace Monument in Hiroshima, Japan.

This FREE event will take place both in front of Wyndham Art Supplies, and in our 3rd floor studio at the Guelph School of Art.

Come learn how to fold a paper crane, in which you can write a secret of your own, a message for peace or make a drawing to be collected and mailed together. All ages welcome.

Are you crazy about oil painting but hate the fumes? Have you ever tried water-soluble oil colors? Sean Dye, Author of Painting with Water-Soluble Oils and The Mixed-Media Sourcebook, will teach you some of the exciting and innovative techniques he has included in his popular books through demonstration and instruction.



1:30 - 3:30 PM HOLBEIN PASTELS - Immediate Gratification: Pastel and Mixed Media

Have you ever been mesmerized by a pastel painting? Pure pastel pigment sits vibrantly on the surface. Learn how to effectively use under-painting. Watch Sean use his favorite combinations of materials. Sean has been recognized nationally as a leading expert in mixed-media techniques such as those discussed in his book The Mixed-Media Sourcebook. He is the founder of the Vermont Pastel Society in 1999. Through demonstration and instruction Sean will explain how and why certain supplies are used.



Sean Dye received his MFA from Pratt Institute, teaches at University of Vermont and workshops throughout USA. He has judged many exhibitions. His paintings are in private collections and commercial galleries throughout USA. They have appeared in Artist's Magazine, International Artist Magazine, Pastel Artist International and Pastel Journal. He the founder of Vermont Pastel Society.

Sean is the Author of Painting with Water Soluble Oils and the Mixed-Media Sourcebook and appears in Caroline Jasper’s book Powercolor and North Light’s Painting the Elements: Weather Effects 2006. He has made 2 DVD’s on oil painting. He lives and paints in St. George, VT.

PORTFOLIO ASSESMENT with Karen Kesteloot

Thinking of applying to a university or college Fine Arts program? Most Fine Arts programs require applicants to present a portfolio of their work, which can be a somewhat daunting experience for those not familiar with this process.


We offer 45 minute consultation and assessment sessions where students meet one-on-one with a portfolio assessor. This assessment will point out strengths and weaknesses, provide an action plan of how to curate the work, as well as make suggestions on how to improve the overall presentation of the portfolio.

 

ART PARTIES
Have your party here at the Guelph School of Art! We offer customized art & craft parties for any and all celebrations! Parties are 3 hours long, with two hours for projects and one hour for a light meal, cake and gifts.

Art Prep gives students a taste of the college style studio art classes while preparing them for upper year high school art. Students will have an opportunity to work from a live clothed model for portrait work. Bring a 9”x12” hard cover sketchbook to each class. All other materials included.

Art Smorgasbord offers the opportunity to sample a wide range of art media. Join Marion in six sessions of art making, working with watercolour, printmaking (linocuts and monoprints off glass), acrylic and oil painting, sculpture (clay, carving and creating masks) and drawing media including oil pastels, chalk pastels, conté, pencil and India ink. This class is perfect for those who want to try a wider range of art media or maybe have yet to find their true art calling.

 

 

SUMI-E with Roslyn Levin

8 WEEKS, THURSDAYS, SEPT. 16 – NOV. 4, 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM, $172.00 + HST


The Ink sings and the Brush dances” In sumi-e one moves with grace, strength, flexibility and balance. The artist is challenged to create paintings of simplicity and eloquence. Learn more brush control and sensitivity, to gain a strength in your brushwork. Learning the importance of white space and understanding the value of simplifying subjects will influence students’ approach to all art forms.

Beginners first learn basic brushstrokes, then embark on a journey of exploration as they, along with those who are more experienced paint a subject of their choosing with the help of Roslyn's more than 30 years experience.


MATERIALS: 2 paperweights, 1 roll of 18” high quality mulberry paper, medium size bamboo brush, Chinese ink stick and stone, 1 piece of wool felt 19”x25”, small white porcelain palette/saucer, 1 small square of white cotton cloth. Watercolour paints optional.

Artists work from a live nude model in the style and medium of their choice. Most choose to draw, but painting, sculpture and other media are welcome. Typically the group works through a series of short warm-up poses before settling into longer sustained poses. A group facilitator will direct the range of poses and sitting lengths. Both male and female professional models take part. Group limit is 10 artists. This class always fills up fast. Sorry, no drop-ins. Please refrain from using solvents in this class.

Recommended for those with previous figure drawing experience.

A great opportunity for painters, sculptors or drawers who want time to create one sustained piece working from a live nude model. This class will begin with 10 quick one minute gestures and then settle into one extended pose with a couple short breaks. Bring your medium of choice. This class is about learning the fundamental principles of drawing. Whether you are new to drawing or have some experience, the in-class exercises will help you to develop and heighten your observational skills. Working primarily from a still-life, there will be many opportunities for variation and experimentation. Each class will end with a short group critique. Optional homework exercises will be assigned. Please bring in any previous drawings for feedback from Eileen or the class.


MATERIALS: 2B, 4B and 6B pencils, kneadable eraser, vinyl eraser, black conté sticks, soft compressed charcoal sticks, 18”x24” newsprint pad, all purpose sketchbook (any type or size). Students who wish to work on higher grade paper may use any rag paper that is no smaller than 18”x24”.

STUDYING THE FIGURE with Marion Manning

A great introduction to drawing the human figure. Lessons include proportion, anatomy and methods to give your work physical volume and emotional depth. You will work with a range of live nude models and poses as you develop your skills. Professional conduct for working with models will be addressed in early classes. After completing this course, students are encouraged to continue to build skills in our Open Life classes which run each season at the Guelph School of Art.


MATERIALS: 18”x24” paper pad (newsprint, cartridge or manilla), 2B, 4B and 6B pencils, soft compressed charcoal, vinyl eraser, kneadable eraser. Optional: graphite sticks, pastels, watercolours, ink.

This course is ideal for those who have never painted before, those returning to painting and those looking to hone their skills. Choose what you want to paint; portraits, landscape, still life, abstracts or work with suggestions from the instructor. Learn paint handling techniques, colour theory, composition, perspective, some ‘tricks of the trade’ and more. Each student will receive individual instruction weekly, helping you to develop your skill level and increase your familiarity with your chosen medium. *If you are unsure whether to choose oils or acrylics, please come to the first class with your canvas pad and palette paper and try out both mediums before you buy.


MATERIALS FOR OIL PAINTING: 9”x12” genuine canvas pad, palette paper pad, small metal palette knife, oil paints (alizarin crimson, cadmium red, ultramarine, cerulean, lemon yellow, cadmium yellow medium, either zinc OR titanium white, and burnt umber), 75 ml Liquin, #4 and #8 natural bristle filbert brushes recommended to begin, brown charcoal pencil, cotton rags and, a piece of masonite either 8”x10” or 9”x12”.  DO NOT BRING SOLVENTS.


MATERIALS FOR ACRYLIC PAINTING: 9”x12” genuine canvas pad, palette paper pad, small palette knife, acrylic paints (alizarin crimson, cadmium red, lemon, cadmium yellow medium, ultramarine, cerulean, white and black), flat #8 and round #4 synthetic brushes, brown charcoal pencil, and a piece of masonite either 8”x10” or 9”x12”.

 

 

WATERCOLOUR TECHNIQUES with Karen Kesteloot

This hands-on course is ideal for beginners. Get a great sampling of techniques for watercolour painting that will minimize your frustration and maximize your satisfaction. Lessons include creating washes, colour theory, masking techniques and more.


MATERIALS: Watercolour paints- cadmium yellow, lemon yellow, cadmium red, alizarin crimson, cerulean blue, ultramarine blue, prussian or pthalo blue, sap or hooker's green, winsor or dioxazine violet, #4 or #6 round, 3/4” or 1” flat wash sable or mixed synthetic/sable brushes*, divided palette with sloped sections, 1 bottle of masking fluid and 1/4” synthetic chisel brush and #1 round synthetic brush, rubber cement pick-up eraser, small spray bottle, pencil, white vinyl or kneadable eraser, small plastic palette knife, 1 sheet of 140lb cold press 100% rag watercolour paper.

INTERMEDIATE WATERCOLOUR with Karen Kesteloot

Come and continue to broaden your watercolour skills in this open studio format course. Students will develop projects of their own choice working at a variety of experience levels while learning more advanced techniques and increasing their understanding of colour and pigment. Discover your own style and how to compose a successful painting.


MATERIALS: See materials list for Watercolour Techniques as well as the following; the Incredible Nib, ½” to ¾” thick birch veneer, poplar veneer or finished grade plywood board for stretching paper (20”x30” is ideal for a half sheet of watercolour paper) and watercolour paints in neutral tint or payne's grey, burnt umber, yellow ochre, hansa yellow and rose madder.


 

ADVANCED TOPICS IN PAINTING with Eileen MacArthur

10 WEEKS, MONDAYS, SEPT. 20 – DEC. 6, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM, $210.00 + HST *NO CLASS OCT. 11 or NOV. 1


This class explores the finer points of applying your painting knowledge and experience to your work. Designed in response to the growing number of Guelph School of Art 'graduates' wanting more, the format will be driven by the students with a heavy focus on lots of studio work time and group critique. In-class exercises will include advanced colour theory, paint handling and application, form and composition. The work of historical and contemporary painters will be studied and discussed as a means of problem-solving in your own work. Please bring in any unfinished paintings that you wish to resolve as well as any source material that you have been hoping to turn into artwork, but have had difficulty deciding how to begin. Two classes will be reserved for working from a live model.


MATERIALS: Any wet or dry media that you feel comfortable working in such as oil, acrylic, watercolour, graphite, etc. Please bring in any and all materials that you wish to use or try. Eileen will also make suggestions on what specific materials may be useful on an individual basis. DO NOT BRING SOLVENTS.

 

 

REALISM with David Caesar

6 WEEKS, TUESDAYS, SEPT. 14 – OCT. 19, 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM, $172.00 + HST


Inspired by the art of Alex Colville, Ken Danby, Christopher Pratt, Walton Ford and Jeremy Smith, this advanced class examines the skills and techniques used to create highly realistic drawings and paintings. David will help you begin to develop one image through drawing or painting. Discussions will include choosing an image, transferring, drawing, and painting processes for highly detailed imagery.


MATERIALS: For the first class please bring; a sketchbook or cartridge pad, an HB pencil and sharpener or 0.5 mechanical pencil, white vinyl eraser and 12” stainless steel ruler, along with your own photographs to work from, or images you have permission to use. Depending on your choice of medium David will expand this list during the first class.

INTRODUCTION TO SOFT PASTELS with Karen Kesteloot

Discover the pleasure of working with this versatile medium. Soft pastels (also known as dry or chalk pastels) were favoured by artists like Degas and Monet for their vivid colours, portability and painterly effects. Learn a variety of techniques in this introductory workshop using landscape and still life subjects. Course fee includes a small kit to start you off, including several pastel sticks and a selection of papers to experiment with during the workshop. ALL MATERIALS INCLUDED

 

 

GROUP OF SEVEN WORKSHOP with Marion Manning

2 SUNDAYS, SEPT. 12 & 19, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM, $110.00 + HST


Into landscape? Admire the Group of Seven? In this workshop, we’ll be going outside to make some painted studies to rework back in the studio into a larger finished painting. We’ll discuss how to edit and/or amalgamate your sketches, hone the design elements and adjust colour to create the effect you want. At the end of the second Sunday, you will have one finished painting and your initial studies to take home.

As some acrylics dry quickly, students may prefer working with oil paints or Golden OPEN® slow drying acrylics for this course. Those new to working with oils will receive any additional help they may require for working with the medium.

WET FELT MAKING with Cara Collins

An exploration into the possibilities of felt. Ideal for beginners; this workshop gives you the opportunity to make several samples of wool felt by hand using a little bit of soap and water. Projects include a plain piece of felt, felt with an inlay design, felt pompoms and a small pouch. Please bring a towel. Waterproof apron and gloves optional. This class is not recommended for those with soap or wool sensitivities. Workshop fee includes wool roving and tools.

 

BOOKBINDING with Cara Collins

SUNDAY DEC. 5, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM $75.00 + HST


Build two books in this short class. You will have the opportunity to build a soft cover book and an open spine hard cover book. Both projects have an exterior decorative stitch technique. The books are both beautiful and functional. Cara will explain techniques for making your books archival and how to make alterations to size and cover stocks.

MATERIALS: Medium duty awl, bone folder, pencil, eraser, metal ruler minimum 15”, 2 decorative papers no smaller than 18”x24”, 1 heavy-weight decorative handmade paper to be used as a soft cover. ALL OTHER MATERIALS INCLUDED

 

SUMI-E WORKSHOP with Roslyn Levin

SUNDAY NOV. 21, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM, $55.00 + HST


Join Roslyn for a workshop version of her popular daytime Sumi-e course. Sumi-e (which translates as black ink picture) is a beautiful, elegant and challenging non-toxic painting technique on mulberry (“rice”) paper or silk, using specifically-designed handmade brushes and ink from pine or vegetable soot. Much like our multi-week Sumi-e class, Roslyn will teach you some basic brushstrokes and the importance of white space, and the simplification of forms.


MATERIALS: 2 paperweights, 1 roll of good quality 18” wide mulberry paper, #8 bamboo brush, 2 small white palette/saucers, 1 small piece of absorbent cloth (discarded t-shirt). Recommended Chinese ink stick and stone. Liquid ink available in class, though not ideal.

 

 

MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE with Sandra Spagnuolo

PAPERMAKING with Sandra Spagnuolo

Explore the art of papermaking by creating a collection of textured organic pieces that will translate wonderfully into your artwork. Emphasizing a loose, “try anything” approach; we will create a range of handmade papers and paper casts. This class emphasizes the use of recycled material, natural and safe practices and an organic approach. Sandra will discuss archival and sizing concerns, and explain a variety of approaches to papermaking and uses for handmade papers. Cara Collins

Cara Collins is a graduate of Sheridan College's Crafts & Design textiles program, she attended the University of Western Ontario for Visual Arts and Art History, and London's Bealart program out of H.B. Beal Secondary. Her work has been seen in the University of Western Ontario's Annual Juried Exhibition and as part of 'She's Crafty' at Arta Gallery in Toronto, Ontario.

Roisin Fagan

Roisin Fagan is coming to us from NSCAD University where she taught their Intro to Screenprinting after completing her BFA in 2005. Her Bespoke Uprising line of hand-dyed, hand-printed, and hand-embellished goods have been shown at Toronto's Christmas and Spring One of a Kind Shows, at the Halifax Crafters shows (which she co-founded in 2005), Toronto's Outdoor Art Exhibitions, Vancouver's Circle Craft Market, Cabbagetown Arts & Crafts Sale and most recently at the London Indie Media Fair. Jason Gateman

Jason Gateman has been in the world of airbrushing for almost 2 full decades. From the moment he picked one up it has rarely left his hand. With the airbrush, Jason has had the chance to travel, work and live all over North America from the middle of the Mojave desert to the snowy forests of Northern Ontario. Jason is dedicated to sharing all he has discovered on his journeys with the airbrush and aiding anyone with even the slightest inclination to learn.

 

GROOME

Jessica Groome completed her BFA at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in 2007. She is currently an MFA candidate at the University of Guelph with a focus on abstract painting and collage. Jessica has experience working within the nonprofit sector, artist run centers, art galleries and as a teaching assistant with the University of Guelph. She also shows her work, including several group exhibitions in Vancouver at the Federation Gallery, the Concourse Gallery and the EcleKtica Gallery. Karen Kesteloot has a BA in Fine Art from the University of Guelph, has a Diploma of Commercial Interior Design from Humber College and has also studied at Parson’s Paris and the Art Institute of Lorenzo de Medici in Florence, Italy. She is an experienced art educator having worked and trained in adult education at Sheridan College. Karen has diverse skills in numerous fine and applied arts. Her experience includes watercolour, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, pottery, oil painting, egg tempera, dry media like pastels, pencil crayon and marker. Karen shares her knowledge effectively by creating  a positive student-focused learning environment. She helps each student bring out their unique creative voice via acquiring the technical skills necessary for free and unencumbered expression.

 

 

Roslyn Levin

 

Roslyn Levin has been creating her Zen paintings of animals, birds & nature for more than 35 years . Her work has been exhibited in Canada, England, Japan and China. She has been twice-blessed with The Ruth Yamada Award for Excellence in Sumi-e, by Sumi-e Artists of Canada. Roslyn's work can be seen at Dragonfly Arts on Broadway, Burdette Gallery, Alton Mill Gallery and The Barber Gallery in Guelph. artbyroslyn.on.ca

 

 

Eileen MacArthur

Eileen MacArthur completed her Masters in Painting at the University of Guelph and received a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Eileen has had exhibitions in Halifax, Calgary, Toronto, Buffalo N.Y, Chongqing, China and Guelph's MacDonald Stewart Art Centre. Eileen has taught classes at the University of Guelph, the Elora Centre for the Arts and for several years at the Guelph School of Art. In 2009 her work was included in the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery biennial, "Some Kind of Wonderful". Marion Manning

Marion Manning holds a Specialized Honours BA in Fine Art from the University of Guelph and a M.F.A. from the University of Waterloo. She has shown at the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre in Guelph, Gallery 44 and the Propeller Centre in Toronto, and the Confederation Centre in Charlottetown among other venues in Canada and the States. Her work is in corporate and private collections including the permanent collection of the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre. Marion uses a variety of media in her own work including oils, acrylics, printmaking, photography and digital art. Her teaching background includes the University of Waterloo, the Upper Grand District School Board and the Guelph School of Art.

 

AMANDA MCMORRAN

 

Amanda McMorran is a figurative oil painter, currently undertaking graduate studies at the University of Guelph. After receiving her BFA from Emily Carr University in 2008 she participated in the Elliott Louis gallery’s second installment of Emergence, an annual exhibition which features young emerging artists, and designed the cover image for Vancouver-based magazine One Cool Word's ninth issue. She has since continued to exhibit regularly, showing work in a variety of galleries and artist run centers throughout the cities of Vancouver and Guelph. 

Sandra Spagnuolo

Sandra Spagnuolo is a mixed media artist working primarily in hand made papers, using recycled and reclaimed materials. Her paper quilts have appeared in both Quilting Arts and Cloth Paper Scissors magazines. She has shown at the International Quilt Festival in Chicago for the past two years and the Milton Art Festival. Sandra studied Fibre Arts at Sheridan College and has taught workshops in Milton, Oakville and Georgetown.

WHERE IS THE GUELPH SCHOOL OF ART?

The GSA studio is on the third floor of Wyndham Art Supplies, 125 Wyndham St. North in Downtown Guelph. You can access our classroom through the store during store hours (Monday-Saturday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM), or afterhours through the GSA door, just next to the main entrance at Wyndham Art Supplies. If you have further questions about accessibility please give us a call.



WHAT IS THE DEADLINE FOR ENROLLMENT IN CLASSES?

Popular classes often fill quickly so it's advised to sign up as soon as possible. To avoid class cancellation due to lack of enrollment, please register two weeks prior to the first class. Once we have met our minimum enrollment we are happy to take late registrations should space still be available.



WHEN WILL I KNOW IF A CLASS IS CANCELLED?

Classes are cancelled no later than 4 days before start date. You can assume your class is running as scheduled unless you hear from us. In the event of class cancellation for lack of enrollment, you may select an alternate class or we are happy to refund all fees in full.

HOW STRICT ARE YOUR AGE RECOMENDATIONS?

Adult classes are recommended for those age 17 and older, with some flexibility. Students who are slightly older than the published age range of our kids classes are welcome to join the younger group as they feel comfortable. In fairness to our instructors and other students, we cannot include those younger than the published age range in any of our youth classes.



WILL THE STORE BE OPEN DURING MY CLASS?

Wyndham Art Supplies is open 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. If you require materials for your evening class and cannot make it to the store in time we can make arrangements by phone to have your shopping done for you in advance, as long as you call before 4:00 PM on the day of your class, or 4:00 PM Saturday for a Sunday class.



WHERE CAN I PARK DOWNTOWN?

We recommend you park in the Baker Street municipal parking lot during class hours. Payment is required between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM Monday - Saturday. After 6:00 PM parking is free.
