EXPLORING OIL PAINTS & COLD WAX MEDIUM with Laurie Skantzos *NEW
2 DAYS, SATURDAY & SUNDAY, AUGUST 12 & 13, 10 AM – 4 PM
Welcome to a weekend workshop of exploration into the world of cold wax. This medium is a true game changer for people interested in working with oils. We will be layering, scraping back, using solvent reductions, adding pastels and much more. Experimenting with a variety of tools such as brayers, clay modeling tools and “squeegies”, we will create beautifully layered paintings.
MATERIALS: Gamblin Cold Wax Medium, oil paints in a variety of colours, palette knives (at least 1 but feel free to try different shapes & sizes), rigid surface such as cradled panel or masonite (min. 12” x 12” max. 30” x 30”) -prepped w/ 3 coats of gesso, Arches Oil Paper (1-2 full sheets), Creative Catalyst wedge (straight edge), metal clay modeling tool, masking tape, Pan Pastel (choose a favourite colour), Odourless Mineral Spirits (Gamblin is the “cleanest”), assorted brushes (flats & rounds including some bristle)
Optional: oil sticks, extra pan pastels, chalk pastels, powdered graphite, extra clay modeling tools (with metal scraping ends), extra Creative Catalyst wedges, soft rubber brayer
