Fridays, June 9th to July 7th 6:00 - 9:00pm
Instructor is David Caesar
In this challenging and comprehensive course, we will be learning to paint portraits from photographs. After a brief lesson on portrait drawing, students will start with the underlying drawing and bringing it as close to a paint-by-number as possible (tracing the photo is also allowed!). We will study light and shadow and gain an understanding of reflected light and colour. David will be doing demonstrations throughout the course and assisting students as we move forward. While photographs will be provided, students will also be invited to bring in photos of their loved ones to work from. Scared yet? Excellent.
Materials to bring: A canvas pad by Fredrixs or better yet, a prepared hardboard/masonite board with gesso sanded down; Acrylic paint including Titanium White, Mars or Ivory Black, Primary Yellow, Pthalo Blue, Magenta and Raw Sienna; Brushes you may need: Premier taklon (synthetic) 1/2” flat, #5, 1, and 5/0 rounds. A palette of some sort - a paper palette is acceptable, and a rag to wipe off excess paint. A spray bottle with water is also very useful for keeping paint wet.
Masks are optional for this class.
