Mitsumata is considered to be softer and more pliable than kozo and takes twice as long as kozo to grow. It works absorbs colour beautifully. Heritage Washi is a term coined by The Japanese Paper Place for Japanese papers that are still made by hand by skilled craftspersons using the earth-friendly techniques and materials of their ancestors. These papers are painstakingly made from the inner bark of 3 renewable species of plants - kozo, mitsumata and gampi. No fillers have been added, no harsh caustic soda used to hasten the process and no bleach to whiten the colour.
