“Tread Lightly” is a collection of works hoping to awaken an appreciation and respect for the natural world. Inspired from hiking various points of the Bruce Trail and beyond, this exhibition features a variety of landscape works rendered in studio, plein air, and charcoal drawing.
Many of the paintings feature tightly knit compositions of densely foliated forest and rock formations. Overgrown with moss and surrounded by trees, these natural sculptures speak of beauty, power and the cyclical passage of time.

John Richer is an artist based in Sheffield, Ontario. His introduction to art began
when he was a child, painting alongside his grandmother who was an artist. They would often walk the fields and woods on her farm together, surrounded by
creative inspiration.
After completing his Bachelor of Arts at York University, John earned an honours
diploma in Graphic Design and Illustration at Mohawk College. He pursued a
profession as a Graphic Designer for 15 years with various design and printing
firms.
In 2008, John and his family had the opportunity to purchase his grandparents’
farm where he spent so much of his childhood growing up. He set about small
scale farming, followed a more traditional lifestyle and began to reconnect with the land. Today John pays homage to his environment through his art, as he is
continually inspired by Nature’s infinite level of transformative beauty. Technically diverse, he channels his vision into unique modes of expression through illustration, painting and most recently printmaking.
