Christine De Vuono: Collective Effervescence

On view April 22nd to May 31st

Collective Effervescence is a term that describes the feelings we have during events that bring us together as a community, an elevated feeling of being part of something bigger than ourselves. These times lift us up from the usual daily tasks into something that bonds us together through shared experience and joy, such as through parades, musical concerts, festivals and dance. Collective Effervescence is integral to the psyche for feelings of inclusion and hope. Over the past three years Christine has run events that are free to the community, The Dog Show in the summer and The Lantern Parade in the Fall, their only goal is to provide out of the ordinary fun and a break from the everyday to allow people to come together as a community and build shared memories of whimsy, unity, and joy.

Join Christine for a Lantern Making Workshop!
The third Annual Lantern Parade is slated for September 26th, 7:30 pm.

Christine De Vuono is a Guelph based multimedia artist working with sculpture, collage, installation, and social events. Often focusing on the transitions we face in life, her work examines both the unseen labour that we rely on for care and emotional support, as well as the moments that elevate us from the mundane of everyday living into a heightened state of collective effervescence.  The core of her work is to acknowledge and celebrate the needs of the psyche for beloved care and lived beauty.  De Vuono’s work has been shown in Hamilton’s Workers Arts and Heritage Centre, London, UK, the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, Toronto, Winnipeg, Ottawa, in her home town of Guelph, and in online forums.  She completed a Masters of Fine Art at the University of Waterloo, a Bachelors of Arts (With Distinction) in Studio Art from the University of Guelph and has previously studied at Emily Carr University of Art and Design and Craven College in the United Kingdom.
