This introductory course in watercolour painting is intended for beginners who are curious about the medium and want to try their hand at something new!
Students will learn the fundamentals of watercolour painting and each week will cover different topics, beginning with the absolute basics. Topics to be discussed include handling watercolour paint and brushes, colour mixing and theory, choosing the right paper, and essential techniques (wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, etc.). Through still life, landscape studies, and even abstraction, students will receive a broad introduction to this medium.
For the final two classes, students will work with the instructor on an independent project of their choosing if they wish. Bring your curiosity!
What to bring:
- Papers: Small watercolour Sketchbook or pad of watercolour paper
- Brushes (Synthetic or Natural Hair): 1" flat, #2 rigger/liner, # 6 round, #10 round
- Paint: A watercolour set OR lemon yellow, cadmium yellow, cadmium red, permanent rose, ultramarine blue, phthalo blue, burnt sienna
- palette with divisions or just a mixing tray
- pencil and eraser
- small sponge
Instructor Bio: "I am a watercolour painter and weaver, working from my wee studio in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. I recently relocated from Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia where I lived or over a decade. My main focus is on watercolour paintings with a botanical theme and landscapes as well as contemporary tapestries. I offer workshops and classes in drawing, watercolour, and tapestry".
