Create your own soapstone carving. Participants receive their raw stone in a supplied kit to create whatever they want, in any style. Stones can be rough-shaped into bears ahead of time for those who have difficulty visualizing possibilities within a raw stone.
We will progress from rough shaping with coarse files, through fine shaping with smaller files and adding details. Then the magic begins as we sand and polish our sculptures to reveal the gorgeous natural colours and textures within the stones.
No previous experience is necessary, all materials are included.
Please bring your own mask, N35 is preferred.
- This kit includes a 3" x 3" x 5" soapstone block, a steel rasp carving tool, two rifflers, stone saw, snap-blade cutter and four grit sanding papers: 100, 360, 600, and 2000. Natural Brazilian soapstone blocks vary slightly in hardness, and colour.
