Materials Included
Learn how to paint moody, intuitive skies in oil paints!
Participants will learn some basics about the properties of oil paints and various substrates, including canvas, wood panels and oil paper. For this workshop, we will be using oil paper and no solvents. Using your hands (gloves provided) and minimal brushwork, we will be choosing colours intuitively and mixing directly on the paper. Not your usual oil painting lessons!
You will have an opportunity to try some warmup practices before moving on to creating one or two small paintings to take home with you.
While we won’t be using solvents, oil paints do have a distinctive smell. We will be using water-soluble oil paints.
Natalie Thomas is a local artist and therapist in Guelph with a deep love of nature that provides ongoing inspiration for her paintings and creative experiments. Painting in particular is therapeutic for her, and she is drawn to multiple mediums for their various qualities and pigments, including oils, acrylics, watercolours and inks. A self-taught artist, her work has been shown locally and she enjoys the vibrancy of the artistic community. She also believes creativity is something everyone has access to, and that playful curiosity that leads to unexpected results can be a source of happiness. And what better way than to be curious together?
