Explore the slow and immersive art of pyrography on paper in this hands-on workshop focused on mark-making, texture, and layering. Through experimentation and small studies on a variety of high quality cotton papers, participants will learn how to create line work, tonal variation, stippling, and richly textured surfaces using a pyrography tool.
One of the most fascinating aspects of burning on paper is the range of textures and marks that can be achieved. From delicate lines, subtle tonal shifts, and organic patterns that bring depth and character to the surface. Participants will also discover how transparent layers of watercolour can enhance and respond to the burn marks.
In the second half of the workshop, participants will create a 5 × 7 inch artwork inspired by natural forms such as white pine branches, trees, and mountain silhouettes.
Templates, reference images, and all tools and materials are provided, though participants are welcome to bring their own images for inspiration.
No previous experience is necessary.
