Tatreez - Palestinian Embroidery

Sunday December 13th 10am-2pm

Instructors: Sima Kuhail and Jafra Allan

Tatreez, the art of Palestinian embroidery, has always been an integral part of Palestinian heritage. It is considered as an intricate embroidery art that requires patience and precision, and uniquely expresses the Palestinian identity through symbolism and colorful stories stitched on thobes, the traditional Palestinian dresses.

In this workshop, you will learn the meanings of different Palestinian embroidery motifs, understand why there is a big variety of Palestinian thobes, see how embroidery is not only an art but also a way of self expression and a means of preservation and empowerment.

You will also create your own embroidered pin, fridge magnet or keychain, and will take home the materials to complete a tatreez project..

All materials are included.

For those interested Sima and Jafra will be offering a small gift for donations to the cause below.

Optional Donation:

Let's come together to support a family from Gaza, who relocated to Ontario 2 years ago. A widow and her children, in need of help to cover rent and college tuition. Every contribution makes a difference!

For those who donate , we'd like to offer a small gift from Palestine, a bookmark, magnet, or a sticker that features the beautiful architecture of Palestine, made by Riwaq (a Palestinian architectural institution that specializes in preserving Palestinian architecture and cultural heritage). More about Riwaq here
