Introduction to Soft Pastels

In this introductory workshop, we will be exploring the materials and application of soft pastels. Pastel painting is an expressive method, where the colours are blended directly on the pastel paper. Blending and layering techniques will be taught step-by-step, alongside colour theory and how to see values, ie: the lights and darks of a colour. 

Our subject today is the beautiful Orange. After learning how to loosely sketch on pastel paper, we will lay in colour, create highlights and a beautiful strong shadow to allow the subject to “sit” on the page.
